Thankyou
to every body who answered our Issue 1 Survey on Mops, here are the results:
MOPS
(or Feather Dusters)
WHAT IS A MOP?
A mop is a Budgerigar who's feathers have grown wrong since
hatching. The feathers grow very long, normally 3 to 6 cm and grow out from the birds
body, [ as in picture of a mop below]. The birds can not fly and normally only
lives for a short period of time [approx. 3 months].
SURVEY RESULTS ARE UNDER PICTURE
Spangle Opaline Mop
THE RESULTS
On average most people who answered the survey bred a total of 200
or less, Budgerigars every year and from this average the amount of mops bred was worked
out:
For every 110 Budgerigars there
are approx. 2 Mops bred
From some of the comments we received, most people
believe that it is in the genes of certain Budgerigars and also maybe because of crossing
budgerigars from different countries, ie: an Australian budgerigar crossed with an English
Import, as one person said. Here are just a few of the

If you have any more information on what causes the
breeding of Mops please send it to us and we will add it to a new article on Mops which
will be placed in The F1 Stud Library in a future issue.
